KYOTO IN 2: BAN THE BULB UPDATE

Fantastic.

A Private Members’ Bill that would effectively phase out the sale and use of incandescent bulbs is being drafted by NDP MP Paul Dewar (Ottawa Centre).

This one simple act by the NDP will do more to reduce GHG emissions in this country than the Liberals’ 13 years of inaction did or the Conservatives have over the past year. I won’t be surprised though, if this bill faces fierce opposition from the global warming ditherers.

To be fair though, Robert…this is a techological alternative that simply wasn’t an adequate or affordable replacement for incandescent bulbs until recently. I’m someone who’s had a very hard time with fluorescent lighting all his life, and I only started seeing acceptable alternatives after the mid-90’s.

    Robert,

Personally, I think it’s a pretty ‘bright’ idea! I would have to ask the MP’s ‘Watt’s the matter?’ should they reject it. Australia has already passed it last I checked. Hopefully our MP’s will be ‘current’ on technological issues, and not a bunch of ‘Dim’ wits?

They can go even further by mandating all new signage must be LED based…no more Watt Sucking Mega Signs allowed either.

Imagine if, just for a fun thought, the ‘New’ Government of Canada issued everyone a pair of Night Vision Goggles (NVGS), then we could also eliminate the megawatts of wasted energy sucked up by the Big Box Store parking lots.

Someday all shopping may be able to be done via Virtual Reality, place order, it is shipped, and that too will eliminate a lot of wasted energy. That is already happening with online purchasing and next day delivery! Heck, even McD’s could use it because we all know that their fries are already cold by the time you get through the Drive-Thru! LOL

Speaking of McD’s and all the other fast food restaurants. Why not switch to frozen products and close all those stores which are pumping millions of cubic feet per minute of hot greasy GHG into the atmosphere?

I like there idea here. As the cons and libs fight it out, the NDP is actually doing concrete policy and action on the environment.

I think something less draconian than an outright ban would be the better way to go. There are still uses for incandescent bulbs that a compact can’t replicate (heat lights, for example).

Bush has a new means of stopping discussion on the Global warming issue…OUTRIGHT CENSORSHIP!

Memo to scientists: Don’t discuss polar bears

“new requirement” for foreign travelers on U.S. government business, the memo says that requests for foreign travel “involving or potentially involving climate change, sea ice, and/or polar bears” require special handling, including notice of who will be the official spokesman for the trip.”

Chavez is right…Bush is a ‘political cadaver’, but Bush acts like an ostrich!

Putin said it correctly ‘We don’t want your form of freedom and democracy, Mr. Bush!’
