This isn’t surprising. What is surprising is that it took these authoritarians so long to do it.
Garth Turner, an outspoken MP from Halton, Ont. has been suspended from the Conservative Party caucus.
Rahim Jaffer, the national caucus chair, said the suspension was due in part to Turner’s blog, which he often uses as a soap box to make his opinions known.
Members of the Ontario caucus felt “the theme of confidentiality was not being respected,” Jaffer said .
“This is not something that one person has felt. There were attacks that were made on individuals, including the prime minister, on his blog at different times,” Jaffer said.
Speaking to reporters after the weekly Conservative caucus meeting, Jaffer said Turner’s indiscretions were hurting the caucus’ ability to function behind closed doors.
I don’t know why Garth has hitched his wagon to these losers anyway.
Update: Garth Turner’s reaction.

This is the same Rahim Jaffer who got his assistant to lie and impersonate him on national media and then lied himself about it, is it not?
These hilarious fuckers don’t know the first thing about the most basic ethical behaviour. Yeah, I don’t know what Turner was thinking either, except that not a few Conservatives thought this was the *old* Conservative party, despite the heavy stink of American-style conservatism hanging all over the Harpies like the stench of burning hair.
Conservatives are slow-learners, you have to remember.
time to start calling it “the old reform party”.
i believe he’s pro-choice. he was certainly under attack by the christian nutter, president of some christian college, who looks like an american televangelist.
Secrecy and obediance are paramount virtues in a paranoid authoritarian government. So much for the conservative Conservatives. All there’s room for now are the neo-con freaks and ‘focus on the family’ kooks. …Always was, I suppose, it’s just clearer now. …’Old Reform Party’ indeed.
turner’s blog was pretty cool for a con. but then therein lies the prob, he’s a ‘real conservative’. i think sooey’s right that it really should be called the reform party…….and that name itself suggests the clockwork orange style brainwashing they’re attempting…gotta reform us all.
ya, it was only a matter of time. turner’s not exactly the type to kick and scream bout it….he’ll put up a bit of a fight but probably comply in the end. unless…….
Speaking of Focus on the Family kooks, I hope everyone’s read Marci McDonald’s article “Stephen Harper and the Theo-cons” in The Walrus (you can get a free pass for one month on the site to read it online)….the issue being of course that the ideologically rigid have to be carefully monitored…when push comes to shove, controlling the message is far more important to them than being direct and honest. Or democratic, for that matter.
For some Fun I’ve been reading the Globe and Mail comments on this story. …Wow!! — 95% of the comments are negative for the HarperCons. This must really burrrn!!! their fascist asses.
…and notice all the CONS hissing and spitting on him. Graceless, backstabbing cretins. You know, it’s only the Christofascism that (barely) keeps these trailer-trash Reformies from becoming out-of-control sociopaths.
They’re out-of-control sociopaths already as far as I can see. And they’re feeling the PAIN today of everyone knowing they’re out of control.
Hey “Conservative” morons, say bye to Ontario! *chuckle*
Re. Marci McDonald’s article in The Walrus, I just received this in my inbox. Check that one as well.
The funny thing is that I was about to blog about the theocons issue, went to ProgBlog for some reason or other and found out about Garth. I decided there and then to postpone the blog that I was about to do. I did not want the information to be “lost” in the noise that was sure to follow Garth’s suspension. Well, lo and behold, there IS a connection after all!
Hi Ti-Guy, I forgot to thank you for the link! Thanks!
Interestingly enough, I saw the current Premier Danny Williams) of my former Province NL the other day on an interview with Don Newman. A couple of times he emphases he has been a “Progressive” Conservative past 40 odd years and there was subtle hints in his(Williams) comments he doesn’t favor some of the direction the Federal CPC government is heading. I do know this SSM is not a big issue with NL premier and it doesn’t bother him at all, or his caucus. I believe the more we see of this current government, the more people will realize it was proper to hold them to minority status and Harper will not get a majority
Hmm, perhaps this means that the Green Party is going to gain their first MP. Interesting times.
You’re welcome FurGaia. And thanks for the links to Christian Zionism….I think. That kind of faith-based irrationality is infuriating. Sometimes I wish I didn’t know there were people who really thought like that.
I have no beef with their beliefs. People can choose to believe in whatever stuff they want. It is the lengths to which those people are willing to go in order that their “prophecy” be fulfilled that I find absolutely terrifying! It would be bad enough if it were a “Jonestown” thing, but they want to take the whole world with them.
To me, these types of beliefs are nothing more than Jonestown on a much grander scale. That is why I find it infuriating. These people are easily manipulated by cynical, unscrupulous power brokers who can, even without Armaggedon, still make life unpleasant for a lot of people.
Anyway, we should be so lucky to be around for the End of Days….it would certainly beat whatever boring thing’s on the teevee these days, and as far as I can tell, I won’t be missing any of those people who expect to be raptured.
These people really are obsessed with Death, aren’t they? If they weren’t so sexually repressed they’d be necrophiles.
I hope Garth posts EVERY DAMN tidbit he has from the Backroom Caucus!
Imagine him devulging ALL of it! Would there be an election or a REVOLUTION?
GO GARTH!
I hope Garth posts EVERY DAMN tidbit he has from the Backroom Caucus!
Don’t hold your breath. Garth Turner isn’t THAT radical. He’s a Progressive Conservative…the equivalent of an American Democrat. He’ll do what’s best for…Garth Turner.
Ti-Guy,
If Garth represents say your ‘average Canadian’ then he will do far more for Canada than Chimperor’s Parrot Harper and his bunch of funnymentalists.
I’ll grant this: I prefer an incompetent Liberal government to an incompetent Conservative government anytime.
Incompetent conservatives aren’t any better for the economy than Liberals, and they spend way too much time being meddlesome, judgmental, doctrinaire and nasty.
Liberalism, even when it’s wrong-headed, is at least generally benevolent.
But without doctrinaire conservatism, all the gays will get married and closeted homo-Cons will run out of partners for public toilet sex.
“Won’t someone please think of the public toilet sex!?”…pleaded Jason Kenney.
i found an interesting pic of harper axing turner
Federal Green leader Elizabeth May laid out an unusual welcome mat Wednesday, inviting dissident Tory MP Garth Turner to join her party.
ooh. i dunno. she may (geddit? eh? well? do ya? hunh?) live to regret that offer.
