OUR LIBROCON WORLD

Most Canadians are living hand to mouth thanks to the Librocon world we live in.

59: Percentage of Canadians who said they’d be in financial trouble if their paycheque was delayed by even one week. By age group, 45 per cent of people between age 18-34 say it would be tough to get by. By household, 72 per cent of single parents say the delay would have a serious impact.

This is what happens when those in charge of your government simply alternates between different coloured cats. Clearly this country needs a new direction for the good of all Canadians and that will only happen when the mice start electing mice.

LIBERALS LIE ALL THE TIME NOW

Just a heads up to my fellow dippers, liberals can no longer be trusted to tell the truth. There was a time when most of them could be, but now they lie all the time. A perfect example of this is this smear job from lying liberal hack, Robert Silver.

Now that we see the text of Friday’s ways-and-means motion, it turns out that in order to support Harper’s government, the NDP will also need to support the Canada-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.

Never going to happen, right? No way the NDP would sell out on such a core issue of principle, you say?

Well, there is at least one report that the NDP doesn’t see this as a poison pill and will still support Friday’s motion. (And to be clear, I have no problem with the free trade agreement and think, as you will see below, the NDP and the labour movement’s rhetoric on it has been completely over the top).

That would indeed be horrible if it were true, but I did something rather sneaky. I actually read the ways and means motion and here’s what I found.

Coordinating Amendments
Bill C-23
24. (1) Subsections (2) and (3) apply if Bill C-23, introduced in the 2nd session of the 40th Parliament and entitled the Canada–Colombia Free Trade Agreement Implementation Act (referred to in this section as the “other Act”), receives royal assent.
(2) If subsection 48(1) of the other Act comes into force before section 22 of this Act, tariff item No. 9801.10.30 in the List of Tariff Provisions set out in the schedule to the Customs Tariff is amended by
(a) adding in the column “Preferential Tariff / Initial Rate”, above the reference to “GPT: Free”, a reference to “COLT: Free”; and
(b) adding in the column “Preferential Tariff / Final Rate”, above the reference to “GPT: Free (A)”, a reference to “COLT: Free (A)”.
(3) If subsection 48(1) of the other Act comes into force on the same day as section 22 of this Act, then that section 22 is deemed to have come into force before that subsection 48(1).

All this does is amend the attached tariff schedule in the ways and means motion if, and I say again, if the Colombia FTA comes into force before the ways and means motion does. Essentially its a pro-active clause that would allow the Conservatives to simply avoid introducing another ways and means motion in order to implement the changes to the tariffs. Passage of the ways and means motion with this minor clause does not signal support for the Colombia FTA that still has to be passed by Parliament; which by the way, looks like it will do with the support of Silver’s Liberals.

So make sure you that when a liberal is telling you something from now on, you remain highly skeptical until you can confirm for yourself if what they’re telling you is the truth because liberals no longer value truth as an admirable quality. It’s simply become an impediment to them just like it is to conservatives.

YOU WANNA BE CANADIAN

You’re first reaction to this will probably be the same as mine; which was what the fuck?! But listen to the lyrics. They’re going to drive the right whingers bonkers. So I love it.

TOPP JOINS THE GLOBE

Since my last post was pretty depressing for my fellow dippers I thought I’d try and cheer them up with some good news. Former NDP campaign chief Brian Topp is now writing for the Globe and Mail. The addition of Topp brings the total number of partisan New Democrats writing for a major media publication to…um, one. Lets hope Brian can manage to crank out thirty columns per day.

COUNT IGGY TO THE RESCUE

The latest numbers from Ipsos.
CP: 39%
LP: 30%
NDP: 12%
BQ: 9%
GP: 8%

Congratulations, liberals. You’ve managed to successfully trash talk the NDP into the dumpster without picking up any advantage yourselves and have put Harper within spitting distance of a majority.
