Afghanistan’s lower house of Parliament passed a resolution Monday seeking to bar television programs from showing dancing and other practices deemed un-Islamic.

The decision came just days after the private Tolo TV channel aired a dance number featuring men and women together on an Afghan film awards program.

The Information and Culture Ministry condemned the scene, saying “dancing by men and women together was completely against the culture of the Afghan, Muslim society”.

Well I see the anti-NDP hysteria in the media is climbing toward a fevered apex. While this sort of thing tends to upset some partisan bloggers (ie. the Chernyukian wing of the libfloggers would sob uncontrollably and the Blogging Whories would smear the messenger), I long ago came to terms with the incomprehensible need for the media to create a narrative regardless of how irrational it might be.

And truly irrational it is. Take for instance the notion of the NDP’s flagging support. Well, according to Paulitics’ poll tracker the problem is neither severe nor limited to the NDP.

Why this is only a dire problem for Layton is beyond me, but then as I said, media narratives are irrational. Besides, each party has their media narrative crosses to bear; Dion is not a leader and Harper is a control freak. So why should Layton be spared the same burden.

Why should Jack Layton–the man who increased the NDP’s popular support by 105% over the past 5 years–listen to unsolicited advice about what he must do from a group of unaccomplished nobodies?

If the Liberals can be successful by campaigning from the left and governing from the right then why can’t the NDP campaign from the right and govern from the left?

Well it looks like the Western Standard has gone from merely being a racist website to one that openly advocates terrorism.

Manley says peace can only be achieved with some Taliban co-operation, telling MPs “this insurgency unless it’s the first one ever will not end via military success. It will end because of a political agreement that will resolve some of the issues that are there.”

Manley added “We mustn’t get ourselves in the position .. where we’re prepared to fight to the last Taliban, because quite frankly, we will never reach that point.”

Obviously John Manley is a very unserious person. In fact, he may even be mentally unstable or dare I say, a jihadi waiting for the chance to dress everyone in a burka and force them to bow to Mohamed.
