I figured it’s time we progressives got in on the culture war that’s become all the rage with the right whingers these days. Since they’ve already jumped in on movies and music, I think progressives should take it to the next level and begin identifying progressive and conservative foods. So here’s the first strike in this new front of the ongoing culture war.
Progressive food: Bumbleberry Pie
For those of you who don’t know what a Bumbleberry pie is, it’s a pie that has a filling composed of a mixture of various types of fruits. Or put another way, one could say it’s a pie made up of multicultural fruits; just like the progressive movement.
Conservative food: Broccoli
Dr. Hibbert from The Simpsons once described broccoli as nature’s most dangerous vegetable. President Bush–the defacto leader of the conservative movement–can also be described as nature’s most dangerous vegetable. Do you need any evidence beyond that to believe broccoli is a conservative food? I didn’t think so.
Next week I’ll examine why pizza is a progressive food and limburger cheese is a conservative food.
In recent years we’ve seen how the Republicans have worked to disenfranchise voters in the US by having them removed from the voter lists or challenged at the polls. Well it looks like our own conservative’s have begun to mimick this behaviour.
Stephen Harper and his Conservative government are CHEATING in the Canadian Wheat Board elections for new directors. Shall I say it again, for anyone who did not yet get the point, …… by removing 16,000 eligible farmers from the voters list, STEPHEN HARPER AND HIS CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT ARE CHEATING IN AN ELECTION. Period.
Could this be a dry run for bigger things to come? Will we see the purging of voters from election lists or roving gangs of conservative supporters challenging voters at the polling stations? I have no doubt that we will if PMS is allowed to get away with this fraud.
Other posts from Buckdog on this attempt to subvert the democratic process.
Peter MacKay:
McDonough and MacKay were sparring about constituency races in Nova Scotia. When he said she was using her reputation to drag NDP candidates across the finish line, she defended the NDP candidate running in his riding. “We’ll just see what happens,” MacKay replied. “I think you better stick to your knitting and win your own riding.”
Loyola Hearn:
Hearn said he used to watch Anderson on the TV show that propelled her to stardom.
“It’s been a long time since she looked good on Baywatch,” he said.
Loyola Hearn again:
McCartney saw a new side of his wife during that debate, and it eventually led to their very public split, Hearn said.
“And we’ll take some credit for that,” he joked.
However, Ms. McCartney is alledging that she is the victim of some serious domestic violence:
Peter MacKay again:
Liberal MP David McGuinty asked MacKay if he was worried about the health of his dog — a reference to the family pet Jack that appeared at MacKay’s side in a now-famous CBC TV interview he did shortly after his May, 2005 breakup with Stronach.
“You already have her,” MacKay shot back to McGuinty, gesturing toward Stronach’s empty seat.
Anybody else see a pattern here?
Update: Loyola Hearn yet again:
We went to Parliament Hill to see Loyola Hearn and to lobby on behalf of women and their need for adequate childcare. We did not see Loyola Hearn…Loyola was supposed to meet with us here in St. John’s in July. We were prepared to go but the meeting never materialized.
Step 1: Wait until a group of Liberal Senators plan a fact finding mission to various spots abroad including Afghanistan.
Senate Defence Committee to Conduct Fact-Finding on Terrorism and Port Security in the UK, The Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates - September 5 to 11, 2006
Step 2: At the last minute tell the Liberal Senators that the situation in Afghanistan is too dangerous for them to visit…
But Senator Colin Kenny, the committee chair, was told it was impossible to travel to Afghanistan before the four senators left Ottawa.
A document obtained by CTV News shows the military met with Kenny in his office on Sept. 2
…even though it wasn’t too dangerous for Gordon O’Connor to visit just a few days earlier.
OTTAWA, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) — Canadian Defense Minister Gordon O’Connor kicked off a trip to Afghanistan earlier Tuesday in a bid to boost troops morale amid rising fatalities of Canadian soldiers recently.
Step 3: Tip off a journalist who will report that the Liberal Senators wasted taxpayer’s dollars living it up in Dubai–where they had legitimate business–after they couldn’t travel on to Afghanistan…
Canadian senators waited in an expensive Dubai hotel for seven days after a failed attempt to reach Afghanistan when the military had warned them not to attempt the trip in the first place, CTV News has learned.
…and rebooking the flights would have been more expensive.
We were finally advised on Monday afternoon, Sept. 11, that option three was not going to work out, and that the situation in Kandahar continued to be in “flux.” At this point the staff commenced efforts to rebook the committee for an immediate return to Canada.
Try as they might, this was not immediately possible, due to fully occupied flights or incurring additional costs which would have been greater than the cost of the hotel rooms.
Now that’s a first class set-up.
