The 2007 Canadian Blog Awards awaken. Rumour has it they’re being run by someone other than me this year. More info to come.

The continuing growth in popularity of the Canadian Blog Awards has pretty much pushed the limit of what one person can handle. So I’m sending out this request for assistance with the 2007 Canadian Blog Awards; which will once again grow to coincide with the ongoing expansion of the Canadian blogosphere.

I’m looking for help in;

Category selection and establishing the criteria for each; particularly in the to be expanded political category.
Assessing nominated blogs to determine if they meet the overall eligibility requirements or category criteria; by far the most time consuming job.
Coding/site redesign; my hamfisted coding skills and aesthetic impairment are quickly becoming a major hinderance.
Media relations; in past years I’ve blown off every request for print, radio and television interviews.

There are now 97 nominations for Best Blog in the 2006 Canadian Blog Awards and I’d estimate about 250-300 different blogs have been nominated across all the categories.

The list of categories is now complete for the 2006 Canadian Blog Awards and are listed on the official rules page. Last year’s Best Culture Blog category has been renamed Best Entertainment Blog and 5 new categories have been added this year.

• Best Activities Blog: All blogs that write about activities such as cooking, knitting or other non sports related activities are eligible for this category.
• Best Cultural Blog: All blogs that write about the issues and lifestyles of a specific culture (aboriginal, glbt, etc.) are eligible for this category.
• Best Family Blog: All blogs that write about family oriented issues or parenting are eligible for this category.
• Best Local Blog: All blogs that write about the politics, issues, life etc. of a city or small region are eligible for this category.
• Best Sci/Tech Blog: All blogs that write about science or technology are eligible for this category.

Additional political categories have been left out as discussions are taking place about holding a Canadian political blog awards that will be hosted on the Progressive Bloggers site after the CBAs wrap up. Further details to follow on that.

Nominations for the `06 CBAs open on Monday.

Six styles of buttons for the `06 Canadian Blog Awards are now available. And the best part of this already wonderful news is that you can paste the code provided into your template and the button will be automatically updated next year.

The Canadian Blog Awards site awakens.

Nominations begin October 2nd and the whole thing wraps up on December 3rd.

Voting will be the same as last year; two rounds with the second round consisting of the top 5 from round 1.

New Categories: I hope to add 5 more to last year’s total of 15.
Best Local Blog: blogs that cover a city or small region.
Best Family Blog: blogs that cover family issues.

The results of the 2005 Canadian Blog Awards are up. Funny thing though. Due to a massive write in campaign, My Blahg has finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd in all 15 categories. Hurrah for me!
