MORE CLIMATE CHANGE NEWS

Here’s a couple new videos. The first is Peter Sinclair’s latest Climate Denial Crock of the Week and the second is another video from potholer54 that addresses the lie that climate scientists are silencing climate change deniers. The last item is a cartoon that perfectly captures the insane mindset of climate change deniers.

CANADA’S BACK: AN INFINITE SERIES

Germanwatch and the Climate Action Network have released their 2010 Climate Change Performance Index and here’s where Canada ranks on the list of 60 nations.

Update: Is it any wonder with a disgraceful record like this that that we’ve become the butt of jokes at Copenhagen and foreign representatives don’t want to be seen with ours.

I showed up there and noticed Steve Kelly, Prentice’s chief of staff, having a raised voice exchange with a member from the U.S. delegation. The problem was the U.S. delegation hadn’t given the green light for a photo-op, just for closed bilateral meeting between the two.

Over the course of 10 minutes, Kelly repeatedly asked the U.S. delegation official to reconsider, to which the U.S. delegation official replied, negative. When Kelly asked for this to be taken up the chain of command, the U.S. delegation official replied “it came from pretty high up. It’s not going to happen.”

Thanks to the Conservative Party’s inaction on dealing with climate change Canada is now an international pariah.

INTERESTING QUOTE OF THE DAY

“At the end of the day, if American consumers buy Canadian oil and consume it in the United States … the environmental compliance cost should really be absorbed on the United States’ side of the border,”–Jim Prentice.

BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR, CLIMATE CHANGE DENIERS

After howling for weeks that the mainstream media wasn’t giving sufficient coverage to the hacked emails it looks like climate change deniers are finally getting the coverage they asked for.

E-mails stolen from climate scientists show they stonewalled skeptics and discussed hiding data — but the messages don’t support claims that the science of global warming was faked, according to an exhaustive review by The Associated Press.

The 1,073 e-mails examined by the AP show that scientists harbored private doubts, however slight and fleeting, even as they told the world they were certain about climate change. However, the exchanges don’t undercut the vast body of evidence showing the world is warming because of man-made greenhouse gas emissions.

Oops, I doubt that’s they way the wanted this story to be reported. Climate change deniers better get used to this sort of coverage though.

Meanwhile, Peter Sinclair has taken another whack at the emails in his latest Climate Denial Crock of the Week.

WAS DON CHERRY BUSY

Like most of the country I like Mike Holmes but this is just stupid.

Holmes is one of several advisers to the Canadian delegation, though Environment Minister Jim Prentice is keeping a tight lid on the various officials who will be assisting him in Copenhagen when he arrives next week. The government will say only that there are 47 officials from various government departments, “a number of advisers,” three members from opposition parties and representatives from the provinces and territories.

But the addition of Holmes appears to be in line with the Conservative government’s political and policy agenda.

I doubt very much that Holmes is in line with the Conservative government’s political and policy agenda when you take into consideration that the Conservative government’s political and policy agenda is focused on nothing more than showmanship. Mike Holmes on the other hand actually gets things done. That aside however, he’s simply not qualified to advise the government on a complex issue like climate change and is only there because of his popular appeal to Canadians. Harper’s latest demonstration of contempt toward the Canadian public doesn’t surprise me as he’s has made it clear on more than one occasion that he doesn’t take climate change seriously and has little interest in implementing a workable policy to address the problem. What does surprise me though, is that Mike Holmes would agree to take part in Harper’s charade.

SMACKING THE HACK ATTACK

Peter Sinclair weighs in on the delusions over the emails from climate change deniers in his latest Climate Denial Crock of the Week.

Meanwhile, the dementia is reaching a fevered pitch.

Capital punishment for Dr James Hansen. Climategate is high treason.

This is just one of the many calls from right whingers for climate scientists to be put to death. These people are not only truly delusional but are also a serious menace to society.

ANOTHER CLIMATE CHANGE NEWS UPDATE

Here’s another series of videos that refute the nonsense being peddled by climate change deniers. This one addresses the outlandish accusations surrounding the hacked emails.

Other videos in the series:
Part 1: Climate Change–the scientific debate
Part 2: Climate Change–the objections
Part 3: Climate Change–Anatomy of a myth
Part 4: Climate Change–Gore vs. Durkin
Part 5: Climate Change isn’t natural

The BBC has an interesting “animated journey through the Earth’s climate history” over the past 800,000 years.

Obama’s science advisers schooled the Republican climate change deniers on Thursday.

“The e-mails do nothing to undermine the very strong scientific consensus … that tells us the earth is warming, that warming is largely a result of human activity,” said another government scientist Jane Lubchenco. A marine biologist and climate researcher, she heads the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The e-mails don’t negate or even deal with data from both NOAA and NASA, which keep independent climate records and show dramatic warming, Lubchenco told members of the House global warming committee.

And last of all, Tim Lambert debunked Andrew Bolt’s latest bit of quackery.

CLIMATE CHANGE NEWS UPDATE

Here’s the latest Climate Denial Crock of the Week from Peter Sinclair.

Keven Grandia at DeSmogBlog has all you need to know about the climate change deniers latest efforts to swiftboat climate scientists.

The IPCC has released the Copenhagen Diagnosis; an update on the state of climate change science. The short summary is this. We’re quickly moving toward the worst case scenarios.

Global ice-sheets are melting at an increased rate; Arctic sea-ice is disappearing much faster than recently projected, and future sea-level rise is now expected to be much higher than previously forecast, according to a new global scientific synthesis prepared by some of the world’s top climate scientists…

In 2008 carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels were ~40% higher than those in 1990. Even if emissions do not grow beyond today’s levels, within just 20 years the world will have used up the allowable emissions to have a reasonable chance of limiting warming to less than 2 degrees Celsius.

For the latest on what various nations are pledging to do to combat global warming, check out Climate Action Tracker.

CLIMATE CHANGE IS A HOAX

It turns out the climate change deniers are right and the CRU emails prove it. Here’s one exchange that does just that.

From: “Michael E. Mann”
To: Tim Osborn
Subject: Out of freezer space
Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 11:18:24 -0400
Hey Tim, none of us have any more space in our freezers to hide the Arctic sea ice. Unless we get a grant for some more freezers we won’t be able to continue making it look like the Arctic sea ice is shrinking.

To: “Michael E. Mann”

Date: Thu, 31 Jul 2003 12:32:04 -0400
I’ll ask Gore to start up another ponzi scheme to raise the money for more freezers. In the meantime, just make up some sea ice measurements to keep the illusion going. We’ll cover our ass by harvesting twice as much ice when we get the new freezers.

From: “Michael E. Mann”
To: Tim Osborn
Subject: RE:Out of freezer space

I still don’t see why we can’t just have NASA keep dumping the ice on Europa while covering it up as “failed” Mars missions. Hansen really dropped the ball on that one.

From: Tim Osborn
To: “Michael E. Mann”
Subject: RE:Out of freezer space

Gore wants us to save the ice until there’s enough for us to melt and put Florida 60 feet underwater. I know, I know. He should just let his 2000 election loss go; Halliburton stole it fair and square and now they’re getting the big payday with their Al Qaeda terrorism hoax. But what can we do. He’s the man behind the climate change hoax and without him we’ve got nothing. Nobody else could have peddled the nonsense in An Inconvenient Truth and gotten away with it.

So there you go, fellow climate change conspirators. The jig is up. Just be happy that we kept it going as long as we did. And by the way, I understand Obama is willing to let us all in on the healthcare reform hoax he’s got going. This one looks like it might be an even bigger scam.

NATIONAL POST THROWS IN THE TOWEL ON CLIMATE CHANGE DENIAL

From the National Post editorial board.

The Earth is warming, and human activity is likely to blame. Climates are changing across the world, including in Canada’s far north. In other parts of the world, some crops will fail, some species will be pressed to extinction and some low-lying territories will be flooded.

Of course they then go on to support more inaction from the Conservatives, but at least it’s a baby step on the path to reality for them.

THOUGHT OF THE DAY

Does anyone else think that if we were just now learning to effectively harness the power of water and turn it into electricity that anti-environment conservatives would be against doing so. I do. I think they’d argue hydroelectric power stations were too costly, too unreliable and too much of a blight on the landscape. I think they’d claim that hydroelectric power stations were killing thousands of fish. I think they’d invent new maladies to convince people that hydroelectric power stations were harming their health. I think the excuses not to build hydroelectric power stations would flow from the anti-environment conservatives faster than the water through those stations.

We’ll never know if this is true, but I think we all know that it would be.
